Orchestras in In Concert

I have to say that I was very much disappointed in our most recent orchestral performance.

But let us start with the positive remarks:

1. We started in-sync at the beginnings of the Bach Chorale.
2. Really, there's not much else.

And now for the not-so-bright side:

1. Much of the Vivaldi was off-beat. Please watch our lovely conductor next time. >_>
2. Drowning out the soloists in Vivaldi. DYNAMICS, folks, DYNAMICS!!
3. I totally screwed up on changing the effects for Queen. As well as some intonation for my high notes. gahhhh /bangs head/

4. The endings of the Bach were not so smooth. Once again, watch the director.

Call me critical, but criticism leads to improvement.

An Insanely Long Comment Typed Out By Hand That Extrapolates On This Post By The IntrnetHteMchne, Who Has Made This Blog His Temporary Domain From Which He Will Spread Hate Into The Interwebs

Haha this reminds me so much of seventh grade...when you were so uber concerned about dynamics.
Rightly so.
As for the rest...I concur. I kept playing the solo parts in The Show Must Go On by accident. Vivaldi was a disaster, but the rests kept it okay...I think. However, I couldn't hear the piano playing. And since I sit at the edge, 2 seats behind Kathleen, I think that's a pretty big issue. Play louder!
Just watch the director a lot guys. Memorizing the music isn't that hard. If I can memorize Vivaldi's eight page Spring Concerto in a month with about nine hours of practice, you can memorize an ending or some troublesome part of the orchestra music. I know this isn't an issue for the people who are reading this (that I know of), but still, it's a problem.
Even though the viola players probably won't ever read this, they really need to be louder. Kathleen's solo in Vivaldi was about OVER 90- no, I just cant do it.
Anyway, since our resident uberprofessional violinist concert master - mistress - lol mastress! - can't bring herself to emphasize her own epic win-ness, I'll do it for her.
Dynamics - check.
Rhythm - check.
Intonation - I couldn't discern conspicuous errors, but if you say so...
Solo parts - played skillfully, with confidence. Can I say virtuoso performance?
Electric violin epic win! It sounded, well, epic (I'm making the word epic a cliche)! The solo parts really emphasized its pwnage 1337-ness. The uber fast 8va part and it's lower counterpart sounded really, really, really similar to a guitar.
However, the rest of us didn't fare as well, or at least the violins and violas. It's basically dynamics, rhythm, common sense, logic, common sense, logic, logic, logic, confidence, common sense, and logic. Practice will help a great deal. I know I'm being hypocritical XD. But fact is, I don't practice and I'm a 1st violin 3rd chair (:( I want to be 1st but w/e). If you practice, you can at least manage to play the ORCHESTRA music well. Btw, practice means you actually do something and achieve something. Pathetic little excuses for practicing don't cut it anymore. You can't just go play a scale, go on the interwebs and cyberbully, play a half of an etude, go troll on the series of tubes, play Eleanor Rigby, and say "I'm Done!"
(HAHA I'M A HYPOCRITE XDXDXD.)

Take out violin/viola/cello/bass
Practice
Practice
Practice
Fail Miserably
Practice
????
PROFIT!!!

P.S. Did anyone notice the piece of paper that dropped off Mr. Morton's stand in...Vivaldi, I think? It almost made me laugh. I hope it didn't ruin the effect for the audience.
P.P.S What does P.P.S stand for? Post Post Script?
P.P.P.S Lulz, post-post-post-script.

Thanks for the flattery Bill,
But I am dying to differ.
I won't enumerate why, for the sake of time.

No seriously, if I was in the audience, I would think that.
Anyway, building confidence is good, right? If you disagree, it is at the very least true that the Vivaldi solo parts sounded good. Maybe not as uber good as I said, but it was still well played. I think that's the only controversial part, since the rest is true and the electric violin part was directed to (what else) the electric violin. Which did sound 1337.
At least this loooooong post wasn't met with as much heated debate as my last loooooong post (which was actually 3/4 copypasta).

Vivaldi... 2nds fail.

lan mao said...

...You have about 20 measures of resting. It's not hard. The 3rd, however, is a pain for our 4th period orchestra. I honestly think it's just a rhythm problem, which we have a conspicuous lack of.
...Unless you're talking about Vivaldi 1st movement for 2nd violins, which is #@$#^%. Bad. 2nds need some work on that. You still have a rhythm problem too.
On another note, I hope we won't play Celtic Roots again. That was an annoying song. I wish there was a cool song that didn't have all these ****** solo parts like The Show Must Go On. But like I said in a recent essay I wrote - you don't get everything you want in life, or else we would have a serious problem - not a high unemployment rate, but a lack of workers in general. Instead, we'd have a plethora of billionaires, real estate moguls, CEOs, stock market giants, etc. Also, a ****load of ******* entertainment people...like movie stars and athletes and stuff like that. It would actually be harmful to our society. What you want may not be helpful to the rest of the world, and 6.6 billion people won't take too kindly to that. Call it unfair if you want; it's not but if you think so - does it change anything? No. It doesn't.
Anyway. Now I can't type anything without you capitalizing on my previous paragraph and brandishing it in my face.
