Coraline- A creative clay stop-motion fantasy/horror children's film. I found it a bit chilling for children, due to its haunting plot and characters. The morale was terrific. It actually made me think!..
Derived from a novel, this movie centers around a dissatisfied girl with workaholic parents. Bored and dismayed after moving into an old home, she finds a small door that leads into another dimension, where an "Other Mother" and "Other Father" resides. This surreal world is inhabited by everything that Coraline wanted- loving, caring parents, entertaining neighbors, great food and more, though what's creepy is that they all have buttons instead of eyeballs. The only catch is that if she stays with her "other" parents, she will have to give up her eyes and replace them with buttons as well.
The plot is slow in the beginning, but quickly picks up its pace as the conflict deepens.
Just about everything in this movie fit perfectly- even the music.
5 out of 5!!
Nothing But the Truth- A thriller that went straight to DVD when it came out. I find that surprising, because the acting and plot was excellent. The setting is in modern times, in which a journalist publicizes the identity of a CIA agent an is immediately bombarded with litigation from the feds to reveal her source of information. Stubborn, she refuses and goes through hell in court, jail, and prison, and pretty much loses everything she has. The momentum and suspense builds up and makes you froth with madness and anticipation until the very end. But it's the very end that will convince you that this was one heckuva great movie. 4.5/5
